Miracles With Music in Brazil – Man Sings During His Brain Tumor Surgery
Once the Spanish novelist and poet, Cervantes said, ‘He who sings scares away his woes.’ This might seem fantastical but this is the truth of many people around us. Music is considered as a great medicine that has the ability to soothe and heal the pain.
Just to mention, ‘Sound Healers Association’ is an organization which explores the use of sound and music as a therapy for well-being of people. Music is something that has always appealed to everyone and helps the mind to relax. History holds testimony that music is a great healer and has brought a lot of changes in people’s life.
Music has the capacity to get away with the pain and recently Nossa Senhora da Conceição hospital in Brazil has set an example for the same. A Brazilian bank worker Anthony Kulkamp Dias, 33 years of age, lately underwent a brain surgery. Dias was detected with a tumour in his brain. According to the reports, doctors of the hospital asked Dias to sing during his surgery. The doctors are of the view that they can map the activities of the brain in a better way when the patient is awake. So Dias was asked to sing so that he is awake throughout the surgery while he was given just the general anesthesia.
A guitarist for almost twenty years, Dias sang six songs including a song from the band Beatles, some Brazilian country songs along with a song which he wrote for his new born son. He sang and played all songs with his guitar inside the operation theatre.
One might have heard about listening to music in a concert or to pass time, but in this case mentioned above music has been used inside an operation theatre as a remedy to keep the patient alive. Report says that doctors of this Brazilian hospital carry out this practice regularly while conducting an operation.
The world of music is now no more limited to the field of arts and aesthetics but it has already started to enter the world of science and technology and nobody can deny the magic it creates in one’s life which is way beyond one’s reasoning.
