Song Sketch
Classical in Nature – Mere Dholna Sun from Bhool Bhulaiyaa
It is very difficult to say what is so special about this song because everything about this song stands out to the viewers and to the listeners. One of the most melodious songs of the movie Bhool Bhulaiyya (2007), ‘Mere Dholna Sun’ epitomizes the blend of tradition and culture.
It is not really usual to have a core classical piece in present generation movies. But this song enriches the experience of traditional music amidst contemporary and modern music. Avni, (Vidya Balan) who faces dissociative identity disorder, starts identifying herself as Munjulika, a Bengali dancer. The narration discloses the history eventually which tells that Manjulika loved Shashidhar, another dancer. The song portrays Manjulika dancing with her beloved Sashidhar in front of the king played by the actor Shiney Ahuja.
Vidya Balan’s performance of the classical dance ‘Kathak’, as Manjulika is the sheer attraction of the song. The actress has elegantly performed the act and to compliment the whole scenario of the song, are the beautiful voices of Shreya Ghoshal and M. G. Sreekumar. The classical jugalbandi of the singers is a pure melody to the ears. The honey smitten voice of Shreya Ghoshal is the cherry on the cake of the audience. The song is accompanied with beautiful lyrics which are penned down by Sameer. The blend of Bengali language in the song is the special attraction.
It is a tune which stays with one even after one is done with the movie. A classic number which is always a refresher whenever one choose to listen or view it.
