Commemorating The Maestro Laximkant Of The LP Duo
Music industry in Bollywood is blessed with some fantastic duos who have created timeless tunes to be enjoyed by the audience across generations. One of such directors is Laxmikant who became popular composing music together with Pyarelal.
Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar was born on 3rd November in 1937. Laxmikant took his initial lessons of playing mandolin under the guidance of Hussain Ali and later under Bal Mukund Indorker. He took violin lessons as well and began performing in Indian Classical Instrumental Music concerts. At the age of 10 his talent f playing mandolin was noticed by the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Laxmikant as a music director earned recognition after his collaboration with Pyarelal. The duo met at a music academy and eventually became good friends. After their struggle they started working as assistants to Kalyanji – Anandji and then music arrangers for S. D. Burman and again his son R. D. Burman till they got the big break with the movie Dosti in the year 1964 which won them their first ever Filmfare award for best music director category.
Then in a speeding way came movies like Aaye Din Bahar Ke, Pyar Kiye Jaa, Farz, Patthar Ke Sanam, Ek Duje Ke Liye, Prem Rog, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, etc. The duo worked with singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Anuradha Paudwal, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik. The lyricist Anand Bakshi holds the record to work most with the directors to give some memorable hits.
From Indian classical music to rock and roll and disco, the directors specialised in all and earned their fame by giving hits after hits. The partnership of the duo broke with Laxmikant’s sad demise in the year 1998. But the music of the duo is still celebrated and enjoyed among the music lovers for they were the creators of golden music which cannot be forgotten.
