Beauty Queens of Bollywood – Nutan
When we talk about the actress Nutan words like elegance, gracefulness pop up in my mind and suddenly this image of black and white poised beauty takes the form. Known for her great performances and women centric films, Nutan was crowned Miss India in 1952 along with Indrani Rehman.
She started her acting career at the tender age of 14 in the film Hamari Beti which was directed by her mother Shobhna Samarth. She went on to do dew films later but it was her performance in the film Seema in 1955 that made her a household name. She also won the Filmfare Award for the same.
After that there was no looking back for this talented lady and she became stronger with each film. She never hesitated to experiment with her roles or pick unconventional movies. The roles that she has done and the kind of accolades that she did could make any actor jealous.
Sujata, Saraswati Chandra, Chhaliya, Tere Ghar Ke Samne and the unforgettable Bandini are a few of the jewels that Nutan gifted her audience with.
In the late 80s she started doing character roles in hits like Meri Jung, Karma, Naam etc. She also did a television serial called Mujrim Haazir Ho in which she played the iconic character ‘Kaliganj ki bahu’ which became very famous. Nutan was diagnosed with breast cancer and she lost her battle to the deadly disease in the year 1991 and left a vacuum in the industry.
