Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – A Song That Grows On You

By  |

Title song of the film  Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, is haunting, intriguing, mystifying, & mesmerizing… Loved it at first sight, it’s  addictive & just grows on you. Very few times, I get blown away by the new songs, this was one of them. Its fabulously sung by Arijit Singh , and equally fabulously composed by Pritam Chakraborty, but the lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya are absolutely brilliant. Loved the synchronization of piano in the opening. The melody twines around you and in moments holds you fast and thralls you. You yearn to know the next note, next phrase. It’s a fresh and delightful shock, when each one is lovelier than the next. Anticipation ramps and ramps.
The voice slips in almost unnoticed, it insinuates itself between the notes and then surreptitiously at first and then slowly, boldly climbs and climbs, until it soars above the music, brazenly, gloriously in it’s full gravitas.
You get overwhelmed by its Splendor, consuming you fully, almost owning you. You suffer from speechlessnes by its sheer poignant beauty. It is both disturbing and soothing,  it exhausts you yet fulfills you.

Ranbir has done full justice with his emotion drenched eyes, face, and emotive skills to Arijit’s unique textured voice and expressive rendition. They both compliment and complement each other perfectly. Aishwarya and Anushka look stunning, and both share fabulous chemistry with Ranbir. Karan Johar’s USP in his films  is his music , and he’s not let us down this time too.  Loved it so much, already heard it umpteen number of times. It has whetted my appetite for the film.
