Amjad Sabri of Sabri Brothers Fame Shot Dead in Karachi

It is a sad sad day for music lovers. Sabri Brothers have been important part of Qawwali tradition and a generation grew up on their wonderful renditions. Amjad Sabri was travelling in his car in Liaquatabad 10 area when his car was attacked by unknown gunmen. Amjad Sabri was the nephew of famous qawwali singer Maqbool Sabri who passed away in 2011. Maqbool Sabri along with his brother, the late Ghulam Farid Sabri, made a formidable qawwali group in the mid-50s.  They were known for their soul-stirring renditions of arifana kalam (mystic poetry).
