Amrita Pritam – I will meet you again

By  |

Some writers know how to weave the words into the emotions of readers. Amrita Pritam was such a writer who went on to write numerous essays, poems and novels. She was born in Gujranwala, Pakistan on 31st Aug, 1919. Over six decades of her writing career she wrote over 100 books of poetry, fiction, biographies, essays, a collection of Punjabi folk songs and an autobiography. She was one of the most powerful voices of Punjabi literature and also first women to receive Sahitya Akademi Award in 1956.

She was deeply impacted by partition and wrote a poem Aaj Aakhan Waris Shah Nu to express her sorrow.

Three movies have been made based on her novels – Kadambari ( 1975 ), Daaku ( 1976 ) and Pinjar ( 2003 ).

And that is the greatness of writers like her. They never fade away even after leaving this world. Via their writings, we keep meeting them again and again and again….
