The Forever Prem – Salman Khan Songs As Prem

There are certain heroes whose character names become as popular as their own name. There’s Vijay for Amitabh Bachchan and Rahul for Shah Rukh Khan. But today we are talking about Prem which has become Salman Khan’s second name! He has played the character of Prem for fifteen times so far and is sure to continue to do so till he retires (which is far, far away). The character of Prem too has evolved with the actor. Sometimes he is the lover boy, sometimes a doting brother, sometimes a loving friend while sometimes a savior. Let us look at these different songs of ‘Prem’ Salman Khan and fall in love with this eternal Prem of the Hindi Film Industry!

1. Aaja Shaam Hone Aayi – Maine Pyar Kiya (1989)
Young, rash and handsome: This marked the debut of Salman Khan in Bollywood as a lead hero (he was seen playing a small role in Biwi Ho Toh Aisi). Salman played the character of a foreign-returned young man who loves to race cars with his dad, teases his mother, spends the entire day with his best friend and devotes himself to his love once he finds her. Everybody just loved this character that was a bit rash and won everyone with his looks.

The song is sung by S.P. Balsubramaniam and Lata Mangeshkar and is composed by Ramlaxman.

2. Ye Raat Aur Ye Doori – Andaz Apna Apna (1994)
Stupid yet lovable : Andaz Apna Apna showed us Salman’s comic side in the form of stupid Prem who is easily fooled by Aamir’s character Amar and pretty much everyone around. But he is not all stupid, he is sweet and lovable and follows his heart and ends up getting the girl and the money.

Sung by S.P. Balasubramanian and Asha Bhosle, this song is composed by Tushar Bhatia.

3. Chunari Chunari – Biwi No. 1 (1999)
The one who strayed: This movie is about extra marital affairs. Prem is happily married to Pooja (Karisma Kapoor), a traditional girl, and have two children. He is happy, but then comes Rupali (Sushmita Sen) who is modern and fashionable and easily captures Prem’s heart.

This peppy number is sung by Abhijeet and Anuradha Sriram and is composed by Anu Malik.

4. Wah Wah Ram Ji – Hum Aapke Hain Koun.. ! (1994)
The naughty good boy of the family: Here, Prem is the youngest in the family and is pampered by all. He is the good boy who occasionally becomes naughty and has a few laughs of his own. He is responsible, caring, good looking and belongs to a good family; in short, every girl’s dream boy.

In this song Prem’s elder brother is getting engaged and Prem finds himself falling in love with his bhabhi’s younger sister. He is playful and naughty and so in love. It is composed by Ramlaxman and is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and S.P. Balasubramanian.

5. O Priya O Priya – Kahin Pyar Na Ho Jaye (2000)
A friend, a lover: Jilted in love, Prem meets Priya (Rani Mukherjee) and they become good friends. Eventually, Prem falls in love with Priya but is too late to confess his feelings as Priya gets engaged to a rich guy and seems happy with the alliance. Prem decides to remain her friend and give her his best wishes.

Prem sings this song in Priya’s engagement. It is sung by Kamaal Khan, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu and Nitin Mukesh. Music is by Himesh Reshammiya.

6. Do You Want A Partner – Partner (2007)
Love Guru: Prem is seen helping people (read clients) solve their love problems and one such client is Govinda. Prem here is seen as a stylish, confident and often arrogant person who himself one day falls in love with Naina (Lara Dutta) and his life changes after that.

The song shows a desperate Govinda trying to convince Salman to help him in his love issues. It is sung by Udit Narayan, Shaan, Wajid, Suzanne D’Mello and Clinton Cerejo. It is composed by Sajid-Wajid.

7. Prem Leela – Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015)
The savior: Prem Dilwale is a simple stage actor who is actually a lookalike of a prince. He is roped in by the prince’s faithful councilor Diwan Sahab (Anupam Kher) to play the part of the prince when the actual prince is kidnapped. The story further takes such turns that Prem Dilwale ends up saving the prince’s life and his relations.

The song is sung by Aman Trikha and Vineet Singh and is composed by Himesh Reshammiya.

8. Just Love Me – No Entry (2005)
The Casanova: While he strayed in Biwi No. 1, he now has grown into a Casanova. Although married to a doting wife, he has affairs with many other beautiful women without her knowledge. He learns the lesson in the end, or does he?

The song is composed by Anu Malik and sung by Sonu Nigam.

9. Title Song – Chal Mere Bhai (2000)
The carefree: A rich boy and a wannabe actor, Prem is the apple of his brother’s (Sanjay Dutt) eye. Both brothers fall for the same girl and Prem decides to sacrifice his love for the sake of his brother.

The title song is sung by Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan and is composed by Anand-Milind.

10. Dhinka Chika – Ready (2011)
The helpful manipulator: Prem is a quick thinker. He has a knack of manipulating things and helps others. The ready thinker, during such manipulations, falls in love with a beautiful girl who also tells lies to him. Ultimately, he finds his way through this chaos.

This song is composed by Devi Sri Prasad and is sung by Neeraj Shridhar and Amrita Kak. This song was a huge hit.

11. Go East Or West – Judwaa (1997)
The innocent rock star: This whacky film was a treat for Salman’s fans. He played double role in which one was named Prem, an innocent singer who is simple and wants to have a simple life.
This song is sung and composed by Anu Malik.
