Guns and Threats Are No Match For Music Loving Women from Afghanistan

By  |

Zohra is an all female orchestra from Afganistan which is lead by Negina Khpalwak. All the members or orchestra are between 13 and 20 years of age. Musicologist Dr. Ahmad Sarmast founded Afghanistan’s National Institute of Music (Anim) and the Zohra orchestra.

The orchestra has faced threats from various groups in Afganistan and even the family members have threatened to kill them. These brave girls have gone ahead and decided to showcase their music talent at World Economic Forum Meeting at Davos.

Our heart goes out to these brave women and we salute their spirit and we hope they will continue to flourish as a musician across the world.
