In The Composers’ Voice – 3: Vishal Dadlani

Vishal Dadlani, of the Vishal Shekhar duo fame started his musical journey with a band named “Pentagram” (he was instrumental in forming this band). While this rock band was gaining popularity through out the country, Vishal Dadlani forayed into mainstream Bollywood music along with Shekhar Ravjiani. The duo so far has given innumerable hits in various genres of films as well as languages.

It was for the movie Jhoom Barabar Jhoom in which he got his break as a playback singer by Shankar-Ehsan-Loy. After this there was no looking back. And Dadlani lent his vocals for many a wonderful and hit songs.


1. Jee Le Zara – Talaash (2012)

Jee Le Zara is smashing hit from the psychological thrller “Talaash” featuring Aamnir Khan in the lead. The soundtrack of the movie was a top class high quality work by Ram Sampath. No one would have sung this song better than Vishal. He brought a great feel to the song with his vocals. The lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar are simply mind blowing. This is one of those songs that one would never forget and would love to listen to on a loop.


2. Dhan Te Nan – Kaminey (2009)

The cult film Kaminey became popular for many reasons including the performance of Shahid Kappor, an unusual storyline, treatment and soundtrack. The song ‘Dhan Te Nan’ became an instant hit upon release and became popular among the youth. Sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Vishal Dadlani added the much need style, flavor and climax to the song with his vocals. The song is composed and written by Vishal Bharadwaj


3. I Feel Good – Anjaana Anjaani (2010)

I Feel Good is a hindi song from the 2010 movie Anjaana Anjaani. The duet is sung by Vishal along with Shilpa Rao, The song is composed by Vishal -Shekhar while Vishal Dadlani has penned the lyrics himself. The video features Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.


4. Mar Jayian – Vicky Donor (2012)

This is one of the best songs of this collection. It has a sufi-soulful feel. Choosing Vishal Dadlani’s vocals in such a romantic number was a complete surprise.And he did all the justice in the world to it. A typical bollywood romatic number, this duet with Sunidhi Chauhan is simply beautiful. Featuring Ayushman Khurana and Yami Gautam the music is directed by Abhishek, Akshay Bafila and written by Swanand Kirkire.


5. Desi Girl – Dostana (2008)

Desi Girl is one of the best dance tracks from the superhit soundtrack of Dostana featuring Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan. Desi Girl is sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, along with Vishal Dadlani. The song and music is composed by Vishal-Shekhar and written by Kumaar.


6. Title Song – I Hate Luv Storys (2010)

I Hate Luv Storys is a hindi song from the 2010 romantic comedy I Hate Luv Storys. The song is dominantly sung is Vishal Dadlani with complete fearless and expressive emotions. Composed by Shekhar Ravjiani and Vishal Dadlani, the song is written by Kumaar. The video features Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor.


7. Balam Pichkari – Yeh Jawani Hai Deewan (2013)

Balam Pichkari is a hindi song from the 2013 movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Sung by Shalmali Kholgade and Vishal Dadlani, the song brings together the fun and festival. The video features the hot sizzling on-screen pair of Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor. Composwd by Pritam Chakraborty the lyrics of the song are penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.


8. Tu Meri – Bang Bang (2014)

Tu Meri is a dance party song from the 2014 movie Bang Bang. The dance number has Vishal Dadlani on vocals. The song became a chartbuster upon release. The song is composed by Shekhar Ravjiani and Vishal Dadlani while the lyrics are penned by the singer himself. Vishal Dadlani. An official remake of Tom Cruise’s Knight and Day, the song from this movie features Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif.


9. One Two Three Four – Chennai Express (2013)

The song is “One Two Three Four” from Shah Rukh Khan’s one of the superhit movies, directed by much talented Rohit Shetty. The music of this song is directed by Vishal Shekhar while lyrics are penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya, while Tamil Melody Lyrics are penned by Niranjan Iyenger. The song is sung by Vishal Dadlani and Hamsika Iyer. The Tamil Rap is by Sricharan Kasturirangan.


10. Swag Se Swagat – Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)

The superhit chartbuster Swag Se Swagat from the movie Tiger Zinda Hai is a very popular number among the masses. Sung by Vishal Dadlani and Neha Bhasin, the tune is composed by Vishal and Shekhar while the lyrics are penned by Irshad Kamil. Featuring the hot on-screen pair of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, this is one of the best party numbers to be played on Saturday NIghts.
