In the Voice of Actors – Part 1

Hindi film music directors have always experimented with their music. Be it introducing any new instrument or any new singer or a completely different style of music. Under such experiments is making the actors do their own playback singing.

It is interesting to note that earlier the on screen actors did their playback singing as a rule but later on this rule kind of vanished in the era when playback singing was introduced.

In this collection we will explore various songs sung by the lead actors and actresses starting with Ashok Kumar.

1.Rail Gaadi Rail Gaadi – Aashirwad (1968)

Rail Gaadi Rail Gaadi is a hindi song from the 1968 movie Aashirwad. The song is sung by the lead actor of the movie, the legendary Ashok Kumar. The classic song is still popular and considered one of the best alternative pop initiative by the music director Vasant Desai. The song is written by Harindranath Chattopadhyay. Chalo Jaane Do is a hindi song from the 2008 movie Bhoothnath. The duet is sung by Amitabh Bachchan and Juhi Chawla. Composed by Vishal-Shekhar, the song is written by Amitabh Bachchan.

6. Aati Kya Khandala – Ghulam (1998)

Aati Kya Khandala is a hindi song from the 1998 movie Ghulam. The song became immensely popular since it was sung by Aamir Khan- the actor himself along with Alka Yagnik. The chartbuster was written by Sameer and the catchy tune is composed by Jatin-Lalit. The video features Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji.

7. Apun Bola – Josh (2000)

Apun Bola is a hindi song from the 2000 movie Josh. The song was sung by the lead actor of the movie – Shahrukh Khan and Hema Sardesai. Composed by Anu Malik the song was written by Nitin Raikwar. The video features Aishwarya Rai, Priya Gill and Shahrukh Khan.

8. Doori – Gully Boy (2019)

An amazing song with some really nice lyrics written by DIVINE and Javed Akhtar. The song tells the story of two worlds existing within this one world. The rap is performed by the actor Ranveer Singh himself while music is produced by Rishi Rich.

9. Main Hoon Hero Tera – Hero (2015)

Main Hoon Hero Tera is a song from the 2015 movie Hero. The song is sung by Salman Khan, composed by Amaal Mallik and lyrics are penned by Kumaar features Sooraj Pancholi & Athiya Shetty.

10. Title Song – Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)

Dil Dhadakne Do is a song from Zoya Akhtar’s film of the same name. The song is sung by Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar, music is by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics are by Javed Akhtar.
