Lavani And The Bollywood Beauties
Lavani, the dance form which is mostly performed in the state of Maharashtra, is derived from the word ‘Lavanya’ which means beautiful. It is said that it originated in the 18th and 19th century and was mostly performed for the soldiers to entertain them and also to boost their morale. There are different forms of this dance and it has seen quite a transformation over the years.
Accompanied by dholak, harmonium, daf (similar to a tambourine), and cymbals, lavani is a fast-paced dance though there are several exceptions. This energetic and rhythmic dance form still has its dedicated audience and has gone beyond the borders of not just the state but the country too.
Needless to say it was used in the Hindi movies to add a different flavour and present something ‘hat ke’ to the viewers. Here are some of the songs where Lavani was beautifully intertwined with the Hindi lyrics yet keeping true to its nature.
Well, there are few songs which are not exactly lavani but are quite close to the genre and hence find a mention in this article.
