Legendary Singer S P Balasubrahmanyam Passes Away

For what comes as another sad news for the Indian cinema, legendary singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam passed away at 1.04 pm today at MGM hospital, Chennai. He was 74. A winner of 6 National, 6 Filmfare (South) and 1 Filmfare (Hindi) awards, the singer was famous by the acronym SPB. He was hospitalized in August after testing positive for Covid-19. Though he was put on ventilator, initially he was doing well and had tested negative, his health had deteriorated.
SPB made debut in 1966 with a Telugu movie, Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna. Thereafter, he became a successful singer, giving voice for legendaries such as MGR, Shivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan. His Hindi debut came in 1981 through the blockbuster Ek Duje Ke Liye. He was lovingly called Paadum Nila meaning The Singing Moon by his fans. He’ll always be remembered for a lilting voice, breezy numbers and effortlessness.

    So sad to loose SPB….i loved his songs in Ye To Kamaal Ho Gaya along with his usual Hindi hits.
