Love Is In The Air – Part 2

By  |

Continuing our time travel of love, let us enter the era of the new-age actors. The Indian Cinema went through a transformation during this period and so did the interpretation of many emotions including that of Love. The revelation of the feelings became more candid and the leading pairs became more vocal or “bindaas” when it came to this particular genre. Even the music went through a changing phase and the lyrics followed close behind. We could see the artists experimenting with the characters, looks and even style of acting. In short, they represented the changing trends of the Indian society at large.

Like mentioned earlier, we can have many combinations of pairs of these actors. It is difficult to segregate them as the only hit pairs and our readers may have different favorite pairings altogether. Nonetheless, enjoy the songs and let love conquer all.

1. Jeena kya aji pyar bina – Dhan Daulat (1980)
Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh. This real life couple can be termed as the evergreen, ever-in-love couple who can live without anything, but each other. They were truly made for each other and are an inspiration to many who seek love or are in love.
There are many songs in which this pair has magic on the screen. This number is a R.D. Burman composition and is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle.

2. I love you – Mr. India (1987)
Anil Kapoor-Sri Devi. This pair has given many hit movies as well as songs together. They were completely in sync with each other whenever they acted in a movie. On one hand we have a beautiful dancer, Sri Devi, while on the other hand we have Anil Kapoor (whose dancing skills can be termed as “different”); and yet when it came to giving a power packed performance, these two were at their best always.

The song is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and the lyrics are by Javed Akhtar. This song is a choice of many when it comes to confessing their love for the beloved.

3. Mera dil bhi kitna pagal hai – Sajan (1991)
Sanjay Dutt-Madhuri Dixit. He was the hunk with whom every girl wanted to hang out and she was the beauty that every boy dreamed of. The combination of the two was bound to make waves. Sanjay Dutt had his own style which was urban, chic and cool; while Madhuri was rustic, her charm was more “desi” in the initial days and I think this made them a different couple.

This Nadeem-Shravan composition is one of the best Love songs till date. The feelings of that one-sided love is so nicely explained in simple words by the lyricist Sameer that we instantly relate to it and some even recall their first crush.

4. Aye mere humsafar – Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)
Aamir Khan-Juhi Chawla. They can easily be called as the sweet, innocent couple of the industry. When these two acted in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, they were the talk of the town. Every boy wanted to be like Aamir and every girl wanted to be like Juhi. They did many films together and entertained the audience for a long time with their romance, love, and even comedy.

The songs of this entire album were a hit. The music was given by Anand-Milind and the lyrics were by veteran Majrooh Sultanpuri.

5. Tujhe dekha toh ye jaana sanam – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)
Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol. One of the most loved “jodis” of Bollywood, these two made everybody believe that they are made for each other. This lad with his boyish charm and the girl with her mesmerising eyes made headlines when they acted together. They had many things in common, apart from talent being awesomely talented; both had unconventional looks, both experimented with their roles, both talked a lot – a match made in heaven!

Mentioning Shah Rukh and Kajol and not mentioning this song would be a crime. Although this pair has given numerous hit songs one after the other; this one songs will remain close to everybody, I guess, including the actors. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Kumar Sanu, it is composed by Jatin-Lalit.

6. Wada raha sanam – Khiladi (1992)
Akshay Kumar-Ayesha Julkha. They made a perfect Khiladi and Haseena Jodi. The damsel in distress and the knight in the shining armour. She was beautiful, demure and he was brave, handsome; sparks flew when these two met.

The entire album was a chartbuster. It was composed by Jatin-Lalit and sung by Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet. The promises of young love, its extent to go beyond the realms of this earth and their story being told as an inspiration to others is a must for any Valentine’s collection.

7. Akhiyon se goli maare – Dulhe Raja (1998)
Govinda-Raveena Tandon. Whenever I think about this pair, it brings a big smile to my lips and slowly it turns into laughter thinking about the funny moments that these two created onscreen. They can be called as the ultimate “Tapori Jodi” of the industry. The songs too had that edge and made it to every discotheque and even the paan kiosks.

This Sonu Nigam – Jaspinder Nirula, perky, romantic duet is a fun, dance song composed by Anand-Milind and written by Sameer.

8. Chori kiya re jiya – Dabangg (2010)
Salman Khan-Sonakshi Sinha. Although this pairing might not go down well with many readers, it is one of the most liked jodis of the latest times. Salman Khan has worked with so many actresses and has made a good pairing with almost all of them, but his pairing with this young, firebrand actress that was talked about for many days. He was an established actor and she was young, naive and had made her debut with him. The age difference was not an issue with the audience as they suited each other very well. We are all ayes for “Pandeji and bhaujayi” for sure.

This romantic song is sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam and the music is by Sajid-Wajid.

9. Mauja hi mauja – Jab We Met (2007)
Shahid Kapur-Kareena Kapoor. This shy guy and outgoing girl pair will remain a favourite among many of the viewers for the sheer chemistry that they had (both onscreen and off the screen). Two beautiful people, young and in love – what else do the audience want from a pair! They did few films together but created a mark for themselves.

This film had some amazing songs by Pritam. This song is sung by Mika and is a perfect representation of the kind of pair these two are.

10. Subhanallah – Ye Jawani Hai Deewani (2013)
Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone. This is a fairytale couple. They debuted almost the same time with different co-actors, but destiny had something special for them. These two never shied away from the people and accepted their relationship openly. Although not together anymore, they continue to work together professionally not hampering their camaraderie even one bit; now that’s talent and professionalism bundled together.

Another Pritam number, this soft and easy-on-the-ears song is sung by Sreeram and Shilpa Rao.

11. Samjhawan – Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya (2014)
Varun Dhawan- Alia Bhatt. It is just the beginning for these two, but they are already India’s sweethearts. The naughty, carefree Alia and the macho, lover boy Varun make a stunning pair.

This soulful song is also a must on the list of the lovers. It is sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal.
