Manogatham Bhavan from Anuraga Karikkin Vellam by Mathangi and Haricharan – An Unconventional Chartbuster
Quite an unconventional song – brings about a chant like feel with unexpected turns and twists and beautiful Sankritized Malayalam lyrics.
The deep , rooted and bluesy voice of Mathangi and mellifluous soothing voice of Haricharan complement each other well, carrying the song between them. They do justice to the song, handling both the carnatic and the contemporary aspects of the song with aplomb – a confident rendition that makes for some soulful hearing.
The song takes a more contemporary twist midway a switch of genre. A balanced composition from the music director Prashant Pillai : deep set carnatic hues that are dominant, with overlays of a contemporary spirit that fades in and out – a combination that seems to work well, and has received praise from both critics and fans alike.
While some bits of the song make for complex listening, it has a calming effect overall, and and leaves you with a pleasant, fulfilled feeling.
