By  |

When most of us plan our trip we make a list of selected songs to listen to in the journey. Music makes journeys enjoyable. It becomes the best companion sometimes and we get addicted to them very easily. Here’s a list of few old songs that go very well with the trips especially road trips. These songs are not necessarily about a journey or feature a journey (some of them do) but make a good collection in which we can indulge into while on the road.

1. Suhana safar aur ye mausam hasin – Madhumati (1958)

Sung by Mukesh, this Salil Chowdhury composition is penned by Shailendra. It features the handsome Dilip Kumar walking through the forest and enjoying the scenic valley around. The song has a kind of echo in it which reminds us of the great hills and the fog featured in the song.

2. Ye dil na hota bechara – Jewel Thief (1967)
Featured on Dev Anand and Tanuja, this song is sung by Kishore Kumar and is composed by S.D. Burman. Tanuja, along with her friends, is seen in a car and Dev Anand is teasing them by walking in the middle of the road right in front of their car.

3. Zindagi ek safar hai suhana – Andaz (1971)
Again a Kishore Kumar number, it is composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. It features Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini riding a motorcycle on the roads and enjoying to the core. The yodeling makes it more interesting.

6. Main zindagi ka saath nibhata – Hum Dono (1961)
This song is not a travel song but it sounds beautiful when in a journey. Although, the lyrics of the song tell us about a person’s journey called life. It is sung by Mohd. Rafi and composed by Jaidev. The lyrics are by Sahir Ludhianvi. It has the famous tune which is played when Dev Anand opens his lighter to light the cigarette.

7. Mere sapno ki rani – Aradhana (1969)
This is one of the iconic train songs of Bollywood. The mouthorgan and the subtle blending of the sounds of a train created a unique kind of music. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and composed by S.D. Burman while the lyrics are by Anand Bakshi. It features Rajesh Khanna and Sujit Kumar in a jeep following Sharmila Tagore who is travelling in a train.

8. Hum dono do premi – Ajanabee (1974)
Again featuring Rajesh Khanna, this time with Zeenat Aman, on a train; this song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The lyrics are by Anand Bakshi and composition is by R.D. Burman. It is said that during the recording of this song there was a strike of musicians and that is the reason there are very less instruments in this song. The emptiness of this song actually contributes a lot towards its raw melody.
