When most of us plan our trip we make a list of selected songs to listen to in the journey. Music makes journeys enjoyable. It becomes the best companion sometimes and we get addicted to them very easily. Here’s a list of few old songs that go very well with the trips especially road trips. These songs are not necessarily about a journey or feature a journey (some of them do) but make a good collection in which we can indulge into while on the road.

1. Suhana safar aur ye mausam hasin – Madhumati (1958)

Sung by Mukesh, this Salil Chowdhury composition is penned by Shailendra. It features the handsome Dilip Kumar walking through the forest and enjoying the scenic valley around. The song has a kind of echo in it which reminds us of the great hills and the fog featured in the song.

2. Ye dil na hota bechara – Jewel Thief (1967)
Featured on Dev Anand and Tanuja, this song is sung by Kishore Kumar and is composed by S.D. Burman. Tanuja, along with her friends, is seen in a car and Dev Anand is teasing them by walking in the middle of the road right in front of their car.

3. Zindagi ek safar hai suhana – Andaz (1971)
Again a Kishore Kumar number, it is composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. It features Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini riding a motorcycle on the roads and enjoying to the core. The yodeling makes it more interesting.

4. Zara haule haule chalo – Sawan Ki Ghata (1966)
This is a typical O.P. Nayyar horse-foot tapping number penned by S.H. Bihari. It is sung by Asha Bhosle and is featured on Manoj Kumar and Sharmila Tagore.

5. Musafir hoon yaaron – Parichay (1972)

This beautiful song is featured on Jitendra who is traveling in a horse cart. The song has a rhythm that goes very well while one is in motion, be it a car or a train. It is composed by R.D. Burman while the lyrics are written by Gulzar.

6. Main zindagi ka saath nibhata – Hum Dono (1961)
This song is not a travel song but it sounds beautiful when in a journey. Although, the lyrics of the song tell us about a person’s journey called life. It is sung by Mohd. Rafi and composed by Jaidev. The lyrics are by Sahir Ludhianvi. It has the famous tune which is played when Dev Anand opens his lighter to light the cigarette.

7. Mere sapno ki rani – Aradhana (1969)
This is one of the iconic train songs of Bollywood. The mouthorgan and the subtle blending of the sounds of a train created a unique kind of music. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and composed by S.D. Burman while the lyrics are by Anand Bakshi. It features Rajesh Khanna and Sujit Kumar in a jeep following Sharmila Tagore who is travelling in a train.

8. Hum dono do premi – Ajanabee (1974)
Again featuring Rajesh Khanna, this time with Zeenat Aman, on a train; this song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The lyrics are by Anand Bakshi and composition is by R.D. Burman. It is said that during the recording of this song there was a strike of musicians and that is the reason there are very less instruments in this song. The emptiness of this song actually contributes a lot towards its raw melody.

9. Jaan e jaan dhoondhta phir raha – Jawani Diwani (1972)
This song again has nothing to say about a journey but the composition and the rhythm of this song makes it perfect to listen to during your journey. The music is given by R.D. Burman and it is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle. This song features Randhir Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan.

10. Hoga tumse pyara kaun – Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai (1981)
Featuring Padmini Kolhapure and Rishi Kapoor, this song is shot atop a train. It is composed by R.D. Burman, lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri and sung by Shailendra Singh.

11. Raah pe rehte hain – Namkeen (1982)
Who can forget this iconic song where Sanjeev Kumar played the role of a truck driver called Gerulal. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and the music is by R.D. Burman while the lyrics are written by Gulzar.

12. Ik raasta hai zindagi – Kala Patthar (1979)
Featured on Shashi Kapoor riding a bike, this song talks about life and its journey. It is composed by Rajesh Roshan and lyrics are by Sahir Ludhiyanvi. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.

So next time you plan to travel don’t forget to add these songs to your favorite list of songs and enjoy your little trip.
P.S.: These songs can be enjoyed even otherwise and make a cool playlist.
