Road Trip With Some Non-Film Hindi Songs

Taking this road trip quest a little further, let us look at some non-filmy Hindi songs that make a great company when you are travelling. Here are some amazing songs that were a major hit when they were released and are liked even today. Some of the artists have more than one song which fit the bill here, but it is very difficult to include all the songs.

1. Piya basanti re – Piya Basanti (2000)
This album was composed by Sandesh Shandilya and the singers are Ustad Sultan Khan and K.S. Chithra. The song (both audio and video) was a huge success and was aired on all music channels. It is a romantic song featuring two lovers and their unusual love story. It is shown as a journey back in time.

2. Dooba dooba rehta hoon – Boondein (1998)
This is one of the best songs of the band Silk Route which comprised of Mohit Chauhan, Kem Trivedi and Atul Mittal. All the songs of this album were hit and had some really amazing music arrangements.

3. Title Song – Tanha Dil (2000)
Shan has composed, written and sung the song and the video too is featured on him. This beautiful song has a melancholic tone to it and yet it makes you happy after listening to it.

4. Title song – Pal (1999)
Pal was the debut album of singer KK. It is composed by Leslie Lewis and lyrics are by Mehboob. The album was an instant hit and KK was an overnight sensation among music lovers.

5. Paree hoon main – Dhuan (1991)
Suneeta Rao has done many albums but her Dhuan album, especially the song Paree, will always be her identity in the minds of the common people. This album was composed by Leslie Lewis. The video was a little controversial and definitely ahead of its time.

6. Ab ke sawan aise barse – Ab Ke Sawan (1999)
A Shantanu Moitra composition, this song is sung by Shubha Mudgal and is penned by Prasoon Joshi. This song will surely get your adrenaline pumping and tempt you to speed up your car but please don’t do so.. drive safe.

7. Maaeri – Phir Dhoom (2000)
This song is from the album Phir Dhoom by the band Euphoria with Palash sen as its lead singer. The video is as good as the song, it shows the journey of this boy (Palash Sen) who is in love with a girl from his village but she is married off to someone else. Enjoy the rhythmic melancholy.

8. O sanam – Sunoh (1996)
Lucky Ali’s Sunoh was a very popular album. This song is composed and sung by Lucky Ali while the lyrics are by Syed Aslam Noor. There are many songs of this singer that talk about journey and travel, but this one sounds really well in a car or through the earphone when you are travelling.

9. Afreen afreen – Sangam (1996)
This qawwali is sung by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and composed by him and Raju Singh and the lyrics are by Javed Akhtar. The video features Lisa Ray and was a rage at the time.

10. Chain mujhe ab aaye na – Tera Chehra (2002)
This song is sung and composed by Adnan Sami and the lyrics are by Sameer. The video features Adnan Sami and Mahima Chaudhury. Watch out for those foot-tapping beats! Your feet might just hurt your co-passengers.

11. Title song – Chaandan mein (2009)
This song is from the band Kailasa. It is written and sung by Kailash Kher and the music is by Kailash Kher, Paresh Kamath and Naresh Kamath. Enjoy the high notes.

12. Shaam se aankh mein – Marasim (1999)
If we talk about Jagjit Singh then the songs would be unlimited. But let us not be greedy now and include just one song of his. This one is penned by Gulzar and the video features Jimmy Shergill and Simone Singh. This one is for that journey where you are driving into an endless road and missing someone.
