Samundar Me Naha Ke – A Zeenat Aman Inspiration

By  |

‘Samundar me naha ke’ became a chart buster in the year of its release and this number from the movie Pukar (1983) to be favourite of many till the present date. This salty number of Bollywood has a very peppy story to reveal to its listeners.

Gulshan Bawra the lyricist of the movie while talking about his carefree and merry days spent in the office of Rose Movie unfolds the interesting story behind the song. Bawra talks about his ‘dhakkan party’ in Khandala. In Bawra’s words the picnic was so named because the people there preferred drinking their drinks in the cap rather than glass. In such a trip once when Bawra and R. D. Burman were having their conversation, Bawra noticed a big car stopping in front of them. To their astonishment they notice the heroine of the film, Zeenat Aman who was not informed about the trip.

Bawra continues to tell that it was a damp weather and while Zeenat Aman was walking towards the dam she slipped and fell into the water there and got completely wet. With some help she came out of the water and looked at Bawra and Burman at which Bawra tells Burman that the actress is looking all the more very beautiful after getting wet. This situation provoked Bawra to write Samundar Me Naha Ke Aur Bhi Namkeen Ho Gayi Ho.
