Shah Rukh and Kajol – Different Flavours of Romance

There are some pairs in the Hindi Film Industry which form a special place in the hearts and the minds of the audience. So much so that they can carry the entire film on their able shoulders and attract a considerable amount of people towards the cinema houses. Popularly known as ‘hit jodi’ such parings seldom go wrong.

One such pair is that of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Theirs is one pairing which has never gone wrong on the silver screen and have given us one hit after another. Not only pure romantic but they also portray myriad flavours of romance with which one can relate to. There is an essence of friendship, camaraderie, teasing, love and even love-hate relationship between the characters that they have played so far. From being the young, very much in love couple to sworn enemies, they have played almost all sorts of characters on screen. There have been many ups and downs in their relationship off screen as well but every time better sense prevailed and they are still as strong as ever.

The pair first appeared together in the 1993 film Baazigar and we knew that there is an inevitable chemistry between the two. They have worked in 7 films so far and Kajol has made cameos in few of Shah Rukh’s films. Let us look at some of their songs which showcase the different shades of a romantic relationship.

1. Tere naina – My Name Is Khan (2010)
Composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, this romantic song is sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan and is penned by Niranjan Iyengar. A beautiful song of lovers adoring each other and emoting only through expressions.

2. Suraj hua maddham – Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)
This magnum opus of Karan Johar featured the pair which goes through many ups and downs in their lives only to grow stronger with each turn of events. This song is romantic to the core and beautifully captured through the lens. It is composed by Sandesh Shandilya, lyrics are by Anil Pandey and it is sung by Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam.

3. Ye ladka hai deewana – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
A friendship that turns into love, this film saw the two as best friends first who later fall in love with each other. This song depicts the importance of friendship in any relationship especially that of lovers. Sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, this song is composed by Jatin-Lalit and written by Sameer.

4. Ruk ja o dil deewane – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)
This iconic film told us a tale of two people from completely different background fall in love with each other. How their paths cross and eventually they fall in love after a rollercoaster ride of teasing, quarrelling, becoming friends and then love. This song is composed by Jatin-Lalit and is written by Anand Bakshi while it is sung by Udit Narayan.

5. Jaati hoon main – Karan Arjun (1995)
This peppy song is sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik, it is composed by Rajesh Roshan and is written by Indeevar.

6. Title song – Baazigar (1993)
A dream sequence, this song is sung by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu. It is composed by Anu Malik and lyrics are by Arzoo Lucknowi.

7. Janam janam – Dilwale (2015)
This Pritam composition is penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and is sung by Arijit Singh and Antara Mitra. It shows the two parted lovers (now sworn enemies) coming face to face after a long time.
