Sridevi – The Ever-shining Superstar
The combination of twinkling eyes and a bedazzling smile can not only make heads turn but also pause for a moment and enjoy the creation of the almighty (regardless of the gender one belongs to). Add to it things like grace and talent and you have a super star. Sridevi had all of these and much more. She was an actor like no other and a dancer par excellence. She had an aura around her that attracted the audience towards her.
Her love for solitude and privacy made her an enigma and she remained a mystery right till the end of her life. Although she started her career as a child artist, she established herself as a main lead within no time. Her foray into the Hindi Film Industry, in the year 1979, as a main lead was Solva Saawan. But it was Himmatwala which made her a household name.
Known for her phenomenal dance performances, she remains one of the best dancers in the industry till date. But her talent was beyond this image of hers; she was more than just a dancer-actor. She has performed exceptionally well in songs like Surmayee akhiyon mein from Sadma and Tu na ja mere baadshah from Khuda Gawah, to name a few. So today let us delve deeper into the life of this actor and pick out few songs which showcase her acting prowess.
1. Title song – Judaai (1997)
A mixed bag of emotions, this song is sung by Jaspinder Narula, Hariharan and Alka Yagnik. It is composed by Nadeem Shravan and penned by Sameer.
2. Aa meri jaan – Chandni (1989)
Although this song has few dance steps, it doesn’t qualify as a full dance number. It is again her expressions and acting that take center stage. The song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and is composed by Shiv-Hari while the lyrics are by Anand Bakshi.
3. Har kisiko nahi milta – Jaanbaaz (1986)
She had a guest appearance in this movie but this particular song was a super hit and you need to watch it to know it. She does have dance moves in this song but then her eyes speak more than her body.

4. Yaad nahi bhool gaya – Lamhe (1991)
This Shiv-Hari number is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Suresh Wadkar while the lyrics are penned by Anand Bakshi. It features Sridevi along with Deepak Malhotra playing the much-in-love newlyweds.
5. Main tera aashiq hoon – Gumrah (1993)
Again she doesn’t lip sync this song but emotes to the fullest. Featuring along with Sanjay Dutt, this song is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and sung by Vinod Rathore. We are sure that her fans would relate very much to the lyrics.
6. I love you – Mr. India (1987)
Agreed that this song does come under a slow dance category, but it is her acting skill that comes forth more than her dance moves (which are no less, by the way). Starring Anil Kapoor, this Sridevi number is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar while it is sung by Kishore Kumar and Alisha Chinoy.
7. Ho gayi taiyyar – Army (1996)
A very different kind of a song from a different kind of a movie. This song is sung by various artists like Alka Yagnik, Vinod Rathore, Abhijeet. It is composed by Anand Milind and features Sridevi, Ronit Roy, Mohneesh Bahl and Sudesh Berry.
8. Dhak dhuk – English Vinglish (2012)
This song is sung and composed by Amit Trivedi and penned by Swanand Kirkire. It features Sridevi in a never seen before role.
We will leave you with this innocent, sweet song which will remind you of your favourite actor who was more than a dancer, an actor, a performer. This one’s for our ever-shining Superstar – Sridevi!
Kindly note that there are many, many more songs of Sridevi which we want to include in this ensemble, but due to unavailability of videos we couldn’t do so.
