Top hits on the dance floor with the Indian Moonwalker – Prabhu Deva
In a career spanning more than 25 years in
Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu language films, Prabhu Deva could be undisputedly termed as the best dance choreographer in India. Prabhu Deva has thrilled audiences with his agile moves and choreography over the years.
Not known to many of us Prabhu Deva’s real name is Prabhu Sundaram, born to an ace choreographer who is known popularly as Master Sundaram in the South Indian film industry. His father was his first inspiration.
He began his career as an actor with the Tamil movie Kadhalan (1994) directed by Shankar. After huge success in the South, the movie was dubbed into Hindi and Telugu and both were immensely successful.
His killer dance moves did not go unnoticed in the popular songs Muqabla and Urvasi Urvasi and ensured him immediate success and fame, opening doors to the Bollywood industry. Collaborations with A.R.Rahman saw Prabhu Deva’s dance skills praised highly.
He was often referred to as Indian Michael Jackson for a long time during his early days in the industry. His dance performances featuring wide range of dance styles garnered him huge fan base across the nation and the globe.
In 1996 he went on to win his first National Film Award for Best Choreographer for the song ‘Vennilave’ by A.R. Rahman, featuring Kajol. This movie was later dubbed into Hindi as Sapnay. He won his second National Film Award for Best Choreographer for the song Main Aisa Kyun Hoon from the movie Lakshya in 2004.
On 11th March 2019 Prabhu Deva was honoured with Padma Shri in the field of art-dance by the Indian government. The multi-talented dancer has also directed many Hindi, Tamil and Telugu movies.

1. Muqabala Muqabala – Hum Se Hai Muqabla (1994)
Prabhu Deva shot to fame with his splendid dance moves and Invisible Man style in this song. Music Director A.R. Ragman’s groovy beats and vocals by Nagoor Babu (Mano) and Swarnalatha takes the cowboy dance number to another level. The song is written by P.K. Mishra. 2. Que Sera Sera – Pukar (2000)
This is the most sensational number from Pukar and Prabhu Deva’s massive hit in Bollywood. Prabhu Deva teamed up with Bollywood dancing diva Madhuri Dixit in the video that features lots n lots of fire. The groovy number’s composer and music director is A.R. Rahman. Penned by Javed Akhtar and Majrooh Sultanpuri, the song is sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy and Shankar Mahadevan. The audio of the song was released on 11th February, 2000 by Venus. 3. Urvashi Urvashi – Hum Se Hai Muqabla (1994)
The “take it easy” policy song is a funny video featuring Prabhu Deva with friends on the busiest roads of Chennai. The song is a mix of hilarious situations and amazing dance moves by Prabhu Deva. This hit song from Humse Hai Muqabala is composed by A.R. Rahman apart from Music direction. The song is sung by, Noel James, Shankar Mahadevan and A.R. Rahman. P.K. 4. Go Go Govinda – Oh My God!, (2012)
In Go Govinda, Prabhu Deva shows us another interpretation and rendition of the moonwalk, a Michael Jackson trademark dance style. The video features Sonakshi Sinha performing killer moves taught by P Ravi Deva. Don’t believe? Just watch the video here.
Go Govinda is a Janmashtami song which is sung to worship Lord Krishna. This song is from Paresh Rawal starrer Oh My God! which is Akshay Kumar’s production. The song is composed by Himesh Reshammiya and Sung by Aman Triikha & Shreya Ghoshal. The audio of Go Govinda song was released on 28th September, 2012 by T-Series.
5. Main aisa Kyun hoon – Lakshya (2004)
This song and Prabhudeva’s exceptional Choreography prowess garnered him his second National Film Award for Best Choreographer. This Hrithik Roshan song revolves around unconventional theme that one shouldn’t miss. Written by Javed Akhtar and new age music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, this song climbed the dancing charts. 6. Saree ke fall sa – R Rajkumar (2013)
Saree Ke Fall Sa from R… Rajkumar became an instant hit among the masses. The main feature of the video was that the dance steps were very easy to emulate. The song features Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha. It was a Prabhudeva’s directional venture. Written by Mayur Puri, the song is composed by Pritam and sung by Nakash Aziz & Antara Mitra. 7. Gandi Baat – R Rajkumar (2013)
This energetic song from Prabhudeva’s directorial venture ‘R Rajkumar’ is sung by Mika Singh and Kalpana Patowary. The song features Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha. Prabhu Deva makes a special appearances in the song as well. The song is compised by Pritam with lyrics by Anupam Amod. The audio of the song was released on 6th December, 2013 by Eros Music. 8. Action Jackson Theme Song – Action Jackson (2014)
What would you call a combination of a non-dancer like Ajay Devgn with Prabhudeva? Well, the answer is not so simple. In this theme song we could see Prabhu Deva mentoring Ajay Devgn and taking him through a few dance moves. The response by Ajay Devgan to his teachings us hilarious though
