Tracks Sidetracked – Part 1

There have been so many music directors who along with the lyricists have given massive hit soundtracks one after the other, sometimes exceeding the popularity of the film itself. I am sure the Universe must have conspired to bring such brilliance in front of us.

On the other hand there have been many film soundtracks in which one particular song was so successful that its popularity eclipsed the melody of the other songs in that film no matter how beautiful those other songs were. These songs had to take a backseat and couldnt become #1 on the charts while still remaining popular and overshadowed by the main hit of the soundtrack. Now there are many of us who have different opinions as to what a hit song is; but here we will look at the songs which were considered a hit in general. Nonetheless you can add to the list in our comments section.

Since we cannot feature unlimited songs and are restricted to fixed numbers we will pick songs from the movies of few superstars of Bollywood from late 80s till 2020. In the first part we will feature songs that were almost famous from the movies of Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor.


1. Tu Mere Saamne – Darr (1993)

Tu Mere Saamne is a hindi song from the 1993 movie Darr. Jaadu Teri Nazar from the same album became a super hit and overshadowed this song. The aggressive powerful song – Tu Mere Saamne is sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Udit Narayan. The song is composed by Shiv Hari. The lyrics are penned by Anand Bakshi. The video features Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla.


2. Ae Mere Humsafar – Baazigar (1993)

Ae Mere Humsafar is a hindi song from the 1993 movie Baazigar. The film was one of the biggest hit and the song Kaali Kaali Aakhein was a smashing hit of the year. Other simple beautiful melodies were overshadowed by the power of the dance track. Ae Mere Humsafar is sung by Alka Yagnik and Vinod Rathod. The song is composed by Anu Malik. The lyrics are penned by Gauhar Kanpuri. The video features Shahrukh Khan and Shilpa Shetty.


3. Ek Din Aap – Yes Boss (1997)

Ek Din Aap is a hindi song from the 1997 movie Yes Boss. A beautiful simple movie with many melodious songs, Yes Boss had a perfect soundtrack. Mai Koi Aisa Geet Gaun was the main hit of the album leaving no space for Ek Din Aap, which is sung by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu. The song is composed by Jatin-Lalit. The lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar and Lalit Pandit. The video features Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla.


4. Kaise Mujhe – Ghajini (2008)

Kaise Mujhe is a hindi song from the 2008 movie Ghajini. Ghajini became a superhit for various reasons, and the music was one of them. Guzarish was the biggest hit of the album by A.R. Rahman and this beautiful melody – Kaise Mujhe Tum Mul Gayi got the attention and much needed love from the audience only after the release of the movie. The song is sung by Benny Dayal and Shreya Ghoshal. The song is composed by A.R. Rahman. The lyrics are penned by Prasoon Joshi. The video features Aamir Khan and Asin.


5. Gazab Ka Hain Din – Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)

Gazab Ka Hain Din is a hindi song from the 1988 movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Dominated by ‘Papa Kehte Hai’, the soundtrack of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak had another hit – Ae Mere Humsafar to make it next to impossible for the audience to focus on this beautiful track. The song is sung by Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan. The song is composed by Anand-Milind. The lyrics are penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The video features Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla.


6. Adayen Bhi Hai – Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991)

Adayen Bhi Hai is a hindi song from the 1991 movie Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin. The combination of Mahesh Bhatt, T-Series, Nadeem Shravan and Kumar Sanu was at its peak during the 90s. With almost every album delivering massive hits, this soundtrack was not behind with a few including the title track dominating the charts. Adayen Bhi Hai did not get the attention it deserved for a while. The song is sung by Anuradha Paudwal, Kumar Sanu. The song is composed by Nadeem-Shravan. The lyrics are penned by Sameer. The video features Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt.


7. Tumse Milna – Tere Naam (2003)

Tumse Milna is a hindi song from the 2003 movie Tere Naam. A super first class commercial soundtrack by Himesh Reshammiya. The album’s title track dominated the charts apart from aggressive dance ballad by Sukhwinder Singh – Teri Lagan Lagi. It is only after the soundtrack gets settled that one gets a chance to listen to this fabulous number – Tumse Milna. The song is sung by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. The song is composed by Himesh Reshammiya. The lyrics are penned by Sameer. The video features Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla.


8. Mera Dil Bhi – Saajan (1991)

Mera Dil Bhi Kitna is a hindi song from the 1991 movie Saajan. It is not a secret that Dekha Hai Pehli Baar was the biggest hit of the decade and is still popular attracting the masses and driving them away from the soft ballad – Mera Dil Bhi Kitna. The song is sung by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu. The song is composed by Nadeem-Shravan. The lyrics are penned by Sameer. The video features Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit.


9. Mausam Ka Jaadu – Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!. (1994)

Mausam Ka Jaadu is a hindi song from the 1994 movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!. The Sooraj Bharjatiya movie had uncountable songs with Didi Tera Devar Deewana becoming the biggest hit of its time. Mausam Ka Jaadu is a beautiful number which was not embraced by the audience with the same enthusiasm. The song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. The song is composed by Raamlaxman. The lyrics are penned by Ravinder Rawal. The video features Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit. The video is shot beautifully across the countryside.


10. Keh Do Ki Tum Ho Meri Warna – Tezaab (1988)

Keh Do Ki Tum Ho Meri Warna is a hindi song from the 1988 movie Tezaab. Ek Do Teen – one of the biggest dance hits of Indian Cinema did not allow the other tracks to unleash. Keh Do Ki Tum Ho Meri Warna is a powerful ballad sung by Amit Kumar and Anuradha Paudwal. The song is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar. The video features Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit.


11. Chalte Chalen Lehron Ke Saath – Saaheb (1985)

Chalte Chalen Lehron Ke Saath is a hindi song from the 1985 movie Saaheb. A lovely movie with great Disco Retro music had ‘Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re’ as the massive hit of the year over shadowing this one. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar. The song is composed by Bappi Lahiri. The lyrics are penned by Anjaan. The video features Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh.


12. Kuch Na Kaho – 1942: A Love Story (1994)

Kuch Na Kaho is a hindi song from the 1994 movie 1942: A Love Story. One of the finest soundtracks by R.D. Burman, the song Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To stole all the limelight and awards too. The album had many hits including this song which is still popular but never became #1. The song is sung by Kumar Sanu. The song is composed by Rahul Dev Burman. The lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar. The video features Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala.
