Well Known Singer Narendra Chanchal Passes Away

Well known bhajan singer and playback singer Narendra Chanchal passed away today. He was 80. Narendra Chanchal wasn’t keeping well for some time and was admitted to the Apollo Delhi. Known for his high pitched, thin and rustic voice he sang songs like Beshak mandir masjid todo and Main benaam ho gaya, though he got fame mostly from his jagrata bhajans.
Born on 16th October 1940, in Namak Mandi, Amritsar, Narendra Chanchal took music lessons from Sri Prem Trikha in Amritsar.
He got break as a playback singer in Bobby (1973). He also won the Filmfare best playback singer award for the same. His autobiography The Midnight Singer, co-authored by Pratichi Mathur and Georgy Bhaala, trace his struggle as a singer through some candid dialogues and interviews. Just like his songs, his personality was also high spirited and upfront. He was also a good poet and a writer.
