Her strong fundamental in Hindustani classical music has earned her the name of one of the euphonious voices in Bollywood industry. Kavita Krishnamurthy has reigned over the music world with her voice during the era of 90’s and has contributed with timeless hits.
Born as Sharada Krishnamurthy on 25th January 1958, she stared her training in Rabindra Sangeet and Hindustani classical music from early age. She was noticed by the duo composers Laxmikant – Pyarelal who supported her initial singing career in the industry. ‘Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon’ from the movie Pyar Jhukta Nahin (1985) became a blockbuster number and opened her path to establish herself as an established singer. This success was enhanced by two major hits of her career; ‘Hawa Hawaii’, ‘Karte Hai Hum Pyar Mr. India Se’ from the movie Mr. India (1987). After this there was no looking back for the singer who in the time to come created history by ensuring only hits to the composers.
She had the opportunity to work with long list of music directors including R. D Burman, A. R. Rahman, Ismail Darbar, Nadeem – Shravan, etc which adorned her musical career. With her immense talent she has to her credit number of performances in the international arena. She has experimented with styles like pop, jazz, fusion, etc to widen her experience in the music field.
In the year 1999 she got married to the violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam and the couple has two children who are trained in Western and Indian music. She has been awarded the prestigious Filmfare award for the best playback singer category many a times and is the recipient of Padmashri in the year 2005.
