Song Sketch

Falling In Love – Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko Toh Pyar – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge

Many times we observe that the lyrics of a particular song; very precisely and accurately describe the right emotions of the characters in the film. Of course that is the real skill of a lyricist. No doubt such songs succeed in touching the right nerve of the audience and they become super-hit. And if such lyrics or the song situation is perfectly matching with any of your real life incidence then, it becomes a Life Time Memorable Song for you.
It was the last year of Twentieth Century. I had not even started looking for betrothed. But, since this first ever proposal came from a distant relative, I decided to see the girl. I am from Pune and she is from Kalyan. That time I had some office assignment for two days in Mumbai. So, it was decided that, on the way, first I will get down at Kalyan, to see the girl and then will proceed for Mumbai. At Mumbai, I usually stay at my Mama’s place. I had informed him about my visit to Kalyan.

Accordingly we meet each other at her home. There I suggested her to have one more meeting somewhere outside so we can have some more discussion. She agreed. Next day, after finishing the office work I rushed to Thane, where she was working. We had a chat with coffee at one of the restaurant. After the meeting, we walked down to Thane Railway station. Till this time everything was normal. But …, while saying goodbye to her, suddenly some anxious feeling beset my mind. I became very nervous and upset. After moving few steps, I turned back, but could not see her. She had already disappeared in the crowd. In a bit pensive mood I boarded the local train. Train left Thane station and I realized that the so called Arrange Marriage Express is now slowly changing its tracks. I get down at Mulund station to catch the bus for Goregaon. As the bus speeds up, a very sweet melody from the then super-hit film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge started buzzing into my mind.

Na Jane Mere Dil Ko Kya Ho Gaya …..
Abhi To Yahin Tha, Abhi Kho Gaya …..
Ho Gaya Hai Tujhako To Pyar Sajana
Lakh Karale Tu Inkaar Sajana
Hai Ye Pyar Sajana …..

This song completely wiped out my nervousness. It’s like changing of season from fall to spring. And for the first time it gave me a feeling that …… “Yes. I am in Love!!”
I wondered, how closely this song relates to me. In the film; after a cheerful Europe Tour, both Raj and Simran are in a bit pensive mood, while saying goodbye to each other on a railway station. They both are facing a ‘To be or not to be’ situation. Are they really in love? Can they meet once again? ….. Answer to both the questions is again a big question mark. And here the song starts. The prelude of the song perfectly speaks the emotions of the two parting souls. As the song proceeds, they are on the way to their respective homes and the feeling of ‘Falling in Love’ becomes more and more clear. What a fantastic and really heart touching work by lyricist – Anand Bakshi, MD – Jatin Lalit and Singers – Lata Mangeshkar & Udit Narayan.
I was just recalling this whole song and the situation throughout the journey. Before I get down at Goregaon bus stand, my decision to say ‘YES’ to her was already final. I reached my Mama’s home. He welcomed me and said – Just now I received a call from her parents and she has conveyed her ASSENT to this proposal. Hearty Congratulations !!
