Album Review: CID – OP Nayyar magic refuses to fade with time
CID is one of those movies whose all songs became a hit. In all it has six songs and all are very hummable and to the extent that remixes are even after five decades of it’s release.
1. Aankhon hi Aankhon mein
This is the only song in movie written by Jan Nisar Akhtar. Rest all are written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The song is picturized on the lead pair Dev Anand and Shakila and sung by Rafi and Gita Dutt. It is a light romantic and teasing type of song.
The song also happens to be the only song in the movie where lead pair is lip syncing it. The song happens to be different from rest of the romantic songs since in this sonf Geeta Dutt sings all the stanzas while Rafi just keeps repeating the main lines. There is another song from a different movie starring Dev Anand which is recorded in a similar manner. Any guesses?
2. Ye hai Bombay ( Mumbai ) meri jaan
This song became an all time hit and was used in recent movies also. OP Nayyar has used Rafi’s voice aptly in the movie, be it for lead man Dev Anand or the comedian Johny Walker. The line “Bombay meri jaan” has become the tag line for all the Mumbaikars.
3. Boojh mera kya naam re
This song is sung by Shamshad Begum and picturized on a lesser known actress Minoo Mumtaz. She is the sister of ace comedian Mehmood. It is a situation in the movie where Dev Anand and Shakila are passing through a village and they happen to see the song by the river side.
4. Jaata kahan hai deewane
Though this Geeta Dutt number is very well known, it was deleted from the movie by Censor Board on frivolous grounds. It was picturized on Waheeda Rehmaan and was in the movie for one week from it’s release.
5. Kahin pe nigahein kahin pe nishaana
The song is considered as Waheeda Rehmaan’s entry in the Hindi film industry. It can be said that this song is a combination of cabaret and vamp number. OP Nayyar has used Shamshad Beghum’s crystal clear voice for this song.
6. Leke pehla pehla pyaar
This song got two mentions in the movie, happy and sad. OP Nayyar has experimented with this song. He has used Shamshad Beghum’s voice, who was an established singer in the 1950’s, for a very lesser known actress Sheila Vaz. He has gone with Asha Bhonsle’s voice, who had just entered the industry, for lead actress Shakila.
