Experiencing The Song – Main Gaoon Tum So Jao – Brahmachari

By  |

Friends, have you ever experienced ” Yahoo, Chahe Koi Mujhe Jungli Kahe … ” in the snowy valleys of Kashmir? Or Have you ever experienced ” O Mere Shahe Khuban … ” in a calm and quiet Buddhist temple in Japan? Or have you ever experienced ” Raat Ke Hamsafar … ” (with your girlfriend) in a romantic evening in Paris?

At least for me, answer to all the three questions is ‘NO’. But, yes, one can imagine, it would be a thrilling experience. Going into the very atmosphere of the song situation and listening (or singing) to your favorite melody will give you LIVE experience of the song. Also, you can realize the power of imagination and versatility of the lyricist and the music director.

Friends, here I would like to share with you a very different kind of experiencing the song. The experience which proved that it not just a song but it actually reveals the true feelings of mine.

It was the last fortnight of December 2011. Our application for adoption was at final stage. And on one fine morning, the cute little angel, our dear Bhairavi, was shown to us. I just can’t explain my feelings when I took her in my arms for the first time. I felt as if I was waiting for this moment for hundreds of years. It was a very different kind of ‘Love at First Sight’. Later on, I wrote few lines in Marathi, on this auspicious occasion.

उघड नयन सरली निशा, हलकेच कानी वदली उषा
रवी किरणांनी आज उजळू दे, तुझी भाग्य रेषा

[Dawn said – Open your eyes. The darkness (of your life) is over. May your destiny be flourished with the morning light of this day].

There was about fifteen days’ time to complete the formalities and bring the child home. In the meantime, the orphanage authorities asked us to come to meet the baby frequently, so that she can know us better.

So, for almost every day my son and I used to visit the orphanage to meet our beloved angel. That time she was just three months old. We used to play with her for about 15-20 minutes and then she used to go to sleep, resting her head on my shoulder. Perhaps she had realized that this is a safe place for her. And the divine lines by Kaviraj start hitting my mind.

Lara La La Lara Lara La La
Lara La La Lara Lara La La

Main Gaoon Tum So Jao
Sukh Sapanon Mein Kho Jao
Main Gaoon Tum So Jao …

Then, we used to take a round in the orphanage for few minutes and finally keep her in her cradle.

Mana Aaj Ki Raat Hai Lambi
Mana Din Tha Bhari
Par Jag Badala, Badalegi
Ek Din Takadir Hamari
Us Din Ke Khwab Sajao
Main Gaoon Tum So Jao ….

Before leaving, I use to just put my hand fondly on the forehead of each of the children sleeping there with speechless assurance that – Yes, one day you will also get lovely parents and that day is no far away.

Kal Tum Jab Aankhe Khologe
Jab Hoga Ujiyara
Khushiyon Ka Sandesa Lekar
Aayega Samay Harkara
Mat Aas Ke Deep Bujhao
Main Gaoon Tum So Jao …

Fifteen days passed quickly and with the dawn of the new year, Bhairavi became indivisible part of our family.

For years I was watching this song on screen. But that was a third-party view only. When I went to the orphanage and actually entered in the role of Shammi Kapoor, the experience was just terrific.

Learned people say that, everyone should experience at least one ‘Ovi’ (a particular type of poetry in Marathi) written by Saint Dnyaneshwar. But I would say, if everyone tried to experience at least one song penned by Kaviraj Shailendra, it will change his or her life like anything. I am fortunate to have such an outstanding opportunity. Thank you very much dear SJSH (Shankar-Jaikishan-Shailendra-Hasrat). You have filled my life with joy and prosperity.
