Great Musical Collaborations: Nadeem-Shravan & Sameer

In the second part of this series featuring collaborations between musical geniuses we bring you the unforgettable team of the Indian legendary music director duo in the Bollywood film industry of India – Nadeem Shravan and lyricist Sameer. Their collaborations have given the industry innumerable superhit songs. Their music ruled the Bollywood industry and the nation throughout the 90s till early 2000. Their contribution to Popular music genre is immense making them the most successful collaborations of their time. They have garnered many awards for their work and their songs played a major role in the respective film’s success.

Their most successful collaborations were with Mahesh Bhatt and T-Series. They had association with Raj Kanwar, Dharmesh Darshan, Venus and Tips, Suneel Darshan,B.R.Chopra, Lawrence D’Souza, G.P.Sippy, Inder Kumar, J.Om Prakash, Anurag Basu, David Dhawan, Priyadarshan and others besides home productions of Aamir Khan. During the early 90s, many stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgan, Pooja Bhatt made their debut in films that featured songs by Nadeem-Shravan and Sameer.

1. Nazar Ke Saamne – Aashiqui (1990)

This movie was the beginning of a glorious career for Nadeem Shravan and Sameer. Their collaboration with ace filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Gulshan Kumar resulted in one of the best and highest selling soundtracks of Indian Cinema. The soundtrack featured a series of hit singles like “Jaane Jigar Jaaneman”, “Main Duniya Bhula Doonga”, “Bas Ek Sanam Chaahiye”, “Tu Meri Zindagi Hain” and “Dheere Dheere Se”. Nadeem Shravan won their maiden Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for the movie soundtrack.
The song “Nazar Ke Saamne” features debutant Rahul Roy and Anu Agrawal. Sameer won his maiden Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for the song while Anuradha Paudwal got the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. The video can be viewed here. Kumar Sanu also won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song “Ab Tere Bin.”


2. Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai – Saajan (1991)

This musical team created a soundtrack with unforgettable and nostalgic tracks. The album comprised of many hits including “Bahut Pyar Karte Hain”, “Dekha Hai Pehli Baar”, “Tum Se Milne Ki Tamanna Hain” and “Tu Shayar Hain”. The song “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai” features Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit. The song is sung by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu, who won his second Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer.The soundtrack helped Nadeem-Shravan win their second Filmfare Award for Best Music Director.

3. Teri Umeed Tera Intezar – Deewana (1992)

The movie and soundtrack went down in history as it marked the unofficial debut of Shah Rukh Khan. The soundtrack was a smash hit making it the best-selling Bollywood soundtrack album of 1992. Nadeem-Shravan won their third Filmfare Award for Best Music Director while Sameer won his second award for Best Lyricist for this song. Kumar Sanu won Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer in a row after Aashiqui (1990) and Saajan (1991) by the same team of Sameer and Nadeem-Shravan. 4. Tu Pyar Hai Kisi Aur Ka – Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991)

After the great grand success of Aashiqui and golden run at the box office, Mahesh Bhatt associated with his core team of Nadeem-Shravan and Sameer for his romantic comedy Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin. The film marked the debut of Pooja Bhatt in her first major lead female role. The track was sung by Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal.The soundtrack featured 11 tracks including hits like “Galyat Sankali Sonyachi”, “Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin” – the title track, and “Adayein Bhi Hai” The video can be viewed here


5. Maine Pyaar Tumhi Se Kiya Hai – Phool Aur Kaante (1991)

The success of this team continued with the melodious superhit soundtrack of the movie – Phool Aur Kaante.The movie marked the debut of Ajay Devgan and was noted for its soundtrack where the songs “Dheere Dheere Pyar Ko Badhana Hai” and “Tumse Milne Ko Dil Karta Hai” became instant hits.

6. Tumhein Apna Banaane Ki – Sadak (1991)

The romantic thriller Sadak, saw the association of Mahesh Bhatt with Nadeem-Shravan and Sameer. The soundtrack features many hits including “Hum Tere Bin Kahin”, “Jab Jab Pyar Pe” and “Rehne Ko Ghar Nahi”. The popular musical score “Tumhein Apna Banaane Ki” features Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Pooja Bhatt. The song is sung by Kumar Sanu, Anuradha Paudwal. The video can be viewed here.


7. Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se – Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke (1993)

After a series of success with Aashiqui, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin and Sadak, Mahesh Bhatt chose the same successful team for his romantic comedy Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke. As expected the movie was a Superhit and received as many as 5 Filmfare awards. Sameer won his third Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist, while Alka Yagnik won the Best Playback Singer award. 8. Pardesi Pardesi – Raja Hindustani (1996)

This team once again created the best selling Bollywood soundtrack of the year. The song Pardesi Pardesi became a chartbuster and is popular across the country till date. The song played a major role in the film’s success. Nadeem-Shravan won their fourth Filmfare Award for Best Music Director, while Udit Narayan bagged his third Film Fare Best Playback Singer for this song. 9.Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein – Dhadkan (2000)

After a few silent years the team made a remarkable comeback with one of the most popular soundtracks of Hindi Cinema during the 2000 era. The songs “Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein” and “Dil Ne Yeh Kaha Hai Dil Se” became legendary love anthems and “Dulhe Ka Sehra” went on to become one of the most popular wedding songs of that time. Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein features Sunil Shetty and Shilpa Shetty and sung by Abhijit Bhattachary and Alka Yagnik. The video can be viewed here.


10. Aapke Pyaar Mein – Raaz (2002)

In the year 2002 they teamed up with Mahesh Bhatt once again, this time as a producer for the horror flick Raaz. The soundtrack was a chartbuster with songs becoming very popular helping Raaz to become the second-highest-grossing film of the year. The sizzling romantic track “Aapke Pyar Mein” is sung by Alka Yagnik and features Malini Sharma and Dino Morea. The soundtrack had few more hits including “Jo bhi Kasmein Khai thi” and “Main Agar Saamne”.
