Legendary Singer – Actress Ruma Guha Thakurta Passes Away
One of the greatest contributors of the Calcutta Choir Group and the legendary singer – actress, Ruma Guha Thakurta passed away peacefully in her sleep at 4:30 this morning. She was 84. She was residing in Kolkata for past one month with her family. Born Ruma Ghosh on 3rd November 1934 to Satyen Ghosh and Sati Debi, she had natural flair for singing. She was married to legendary Kishore Kumar in 1951. Unfortunately the marriage lasted for seven years only. Amit Kumar, the legendary singer, is her son. She later got married to Arup Guha Thakurta.
Ruma Guha Thakurta made her debut in a Hindi film Jwar Bhata (1944) which was also the debut film of the thespian Dilip Kumar. She did a handful of Hindi films before shifting to Bangla films. Her first Bangla film was Ganga (1959). She was last seen in The Namesake (2006).
Her son, singer Amit Kumar, is said to be reaching Kolkata in the evening, after which her last rites will be performed. May her soul rest in peace.
