Song Sketch
Are You Really Here – Tu Hai Ki Nahi – Roy
The song starts with a whistle and we have an image of Ranbir Kapoor, in his skull cap, riding on his motorbike, lost in thoughts. Such strong is the imagery that the song and its picturisation are inseparable.
Ankit Tiwari has sung this song as beautifully as he has composed it. There is a sort of connection that he makes with his audience that we are all ears when he starts to croon the lines.
Mujh se hi aaj mujhko mila de
Dekhoon aadaton mein tu hai ke nahi
Har saans se poochh ke bataa de
Inke faaslon mein tu hai ki nahi
Main aas paas tere aur mere paas..
Tu hai ke nahi..
Today you made me aware of myself, of what I am
I think of you all the time, now I want to see if you have become a habit or not
Ask every breath of mine and tell me
What lies in between them, it is you
I have come so close to you that
It is difficult to see you around me
I want to see whether you are really there or not
Or is it just my imagination that you are here
The song progresses stealthily with the guitar and piano, followed by the violins building up the crescendo. It comes in its full glory with the beats, instruments, Ankit’s voice during the lines “Tu hai ki nahi…” followed by the whistling again. This song became an instant hit among youngsters and we could hear it at restaurants, coffee joints, even caller tunes.
Daudte hain khwaab jin pe raasta woh tu lage
Neend se jo aankh ka hai waasta woh tu lage
Tu badalta waqt koi khushnumaa saa pal mera
Tu woh lamha jo na thehre aane waala kal mera
You seem to me like the path on which my dreams run
Our relationship is like that of the eyes and sleep, inseparable, inevitable
You are the happy, turning point of my life
You are that moment in my life which is unstoppable; you are my tomorrow, my future
The film Roy is a romantic thriller. It is full of intrigue and suspense. A film like this also needs the kind of music which will enhance the film to a different level; not just the background music, but the songs as well. The lyrics by Abhendra Kumar Upadhyay are not easy, they are a little complex and one wonders whether there is another meaning to it altogether, just like the film. This song is completely in sync with the film’s genre and theme.
In labon pe jo hansi hai inki tu hi hai wajah
Bin tere main kuch nahi hoon mera hona bewajah
Dhoop teri na pade toh dhundhla sa main lagoon
Aake saansein de mujhe tu taaki zinda main rahoon
You are the reason behind the smile that has touched my lips subtly
Without you I am nothing, my existence is of no use as I am incomplete
I shine in your light; otherwise I become dull as you are my sunshine
Come, breathe life in me so that I may stay alive
It is one of those songs which we can play in the car, put it in loop and drive away onto an unknown path. So what are you waiting for!
