Romantic Songs Of The Suave Prince – Shashi Kapoor
He spread his magic on screen from the word go. That crooked but gleaming and scintillating smile did the trick every time. He captivated the audience with those generous, glittering eyes. He happens to be the exact persona of prince charming. Shashi Kapoor – The Suave Prince of Film Tales. The energetic, open, confident and hugely respectful, Shashi Kapoor, in a way was never a competition for his contemporaries. He continued to play simple, grounded roles. He never went out of his way to portray himself as a larger than life figure. Groomed and polished at the theatres, Shashi Kapoor, followed his elder brothers into films in 1960s, as the lead star. He swayed comfortably between the commercial and the arthouse cinema, including some of the English films where he played pivotal roles. He was the only actor at that time to consistently appear in international films. The compassion and benevolence of his on screen characters matched his real life persona of bright and ethical human being.
Quiet and elegant, Shashi Kapoor, easily made way into people’s heart to stay there forever. But acting was among the first skills he learnt, being drilled in the theatre starting at the age of 4, by his thespian father Prithviraj Kapoor. Most of the characters he played had an honest attitude. Though he carved a niche for himself in the mainstream cinema, he was equally popular as the producer of some of the best in parallel cinema. As an actor, Shashi Kapoor’s transparency and ability made him deliver some of the best romances with all the top heroines of his times. Though he brought a kind of dreamy romance on screen, the romance was yet approachable from real life point of view with some of the best romantic numbers picturised on him.
