The Multi talented New-Age Composer – Amit Trivedi

Amit Trivedi, one of the most popular names in Indian Music Industry has a reputation to fuse music with film’s narrative. He has mastered the art of seizing every opportunity he gets since his teenage.

The Bandra Boy started his musical journey during college days with his band Om, performing at many local gigs, shows and concerts. Not many know that Amit started his career composing jingles and music for theatres and non-film music albums. The opportunity to become an independent music director knocked on his door when singer-friend Shilpa Rao introduced him to Anurag Kashyap. It was in 2008 that he made his debut in Indian Cinema as a music director for the movie Aamir. However, he shot to fame and garnered popularity along with a huge fan base with Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D. The soundtrack of Dev D established Amit as a contemporary and versatile composer, for which he won the National Award for Best Music Director in 2010, the highest recognition for Indian composers.

Amit soon became a rage amongst the youth by delivering hits in wide range of music including alternative rock, soul, classical, pop and fusion. Apart from music direction Amit Trivedi has contributed as a vocalist and lyricist for many of his songs.

The singer-composer believes in spreading love, positivity, hope and happiness through his songs during these challenging times of Lockdown due to Covid-19 by releasing his new album Songs of Faith.

1. Iktara – Wake Up Sid (2009)

Iktara is a superhit hindi song from the 2009 movie Wake Up Sid. Sung by lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya, Kavita Seth, Tochi Raina, Iktara became the biggest hit of the year and made Amit Trivedi a household name overnight. 2. Sawaar Loon – Lootera (2013)

Sawaar Loon is a hindi song from the 2013 movie Lootera. The melodious song is sung by Asha Bhosle and Monali Thakur for which she won Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. 3. Dhak Dhuk – English Vinglish (2012)

Dhak Dhuk is a hindi song from the 2012 movie English Vinglish. The song is sung by Amit Trivedi, himself. Written by Swanand Kirkire the song became immensely popular featuring the legendary Sridevi. The video can be viewed here.


4 Nayan Tarse – Dev.D. (2009)

Nayan Tarse is a hindi song from the 2009 movie Dev.D. Sung by Amit Trivedi, Nayan Tarse features in the contemporary take on Dev D. The lyrics are penned down by Shellee. The video features Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin and Mahie Gill. The video can be viewed here.


5. Pashmina – Fitoor (2016)

Pashmina is a first class composition featuring Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur in an artistic setup. Yet another composition sung by the singer-composer himself. The fabulous lyrics are penned by Swanand Kirkire. The video can be viewed here.


6. Ud-Daa Punjab – Udta Punjab (2016)

Ud-Daa Punjab is a hindi song from the 2016 blockbuster movie Udta Punjab. A fabulous song by singers Amit Trivedi and Vishal Dadlani went on to become a rage amongst the youth. The soundtrack is a blend of Folk, modern and alternative music. The hard core lyrics are penned by Varun Grover. 7. Namo Namo – Kedarnath (2018)

The beautifully shot video features Sushant Singh Rajput. The soundtrack shows the versatility of Amit Trivedi as a music director. This is just another song sung by the composer himself. The lyrics are penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The video can be viewed here.


8. Nachdi Phira – Secret Superstar (2017)

The film has gained cult status over the years and the story revolves around music which makes this soundtrack one of the best works by Amit Trivedi. Meghna Mishra won the Best Playback Singer at the 63rd Filmfare Awards Written by Kausar Munir the video features Zaira Wasim as the secret superstar.

9. Kinare – Queen (2014)

Kinare is a lovely song from 2014 Hindi movie Queen which is sung by Mohan Kanan. Kinare Lyrics are penned by lyricist Anvita Dutt Guptan. The video features Kangana Ranaut.

10.Gulabo – Shaandaar (2016)

Gulabo is a song from Shaandaar starring Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The song is sung by Vishal Dadlani & Anusha Mani, while the lyrics are penned by Anvita Dutt.
