Yeh Zindagi… Episode 3

By  |

Sumeet was very happy as his friendship with Ayesha was becoming stronger. He did everything that he could; not to impress her but to make her happy. Life for him was her happiness.

During these days he was transferred to another branch of his office which was far away from where he lived. It took him almost the entire day to go to work, complete his work and come back home. His friends suggested him to change his room but Sumeet denied as this would mean going away from Ayesha as well.

Long travelling hours took a toll on his health and one day he almost felt like leaving the job. He sat at his desk, deep in thoughts. He looked particularly ill that day.

“Care for some coffee?” A voice interrupted his train of thoughts. He looked up and saw Ritu, his colleague. She was fair and had menacingly curly hair which always reminded Sumeet of his favorite 2-minute noodles.
“Nah..” he said.
“It’s homemade.” She said tapping a thermos which was in her hand.

It had been ages since Sumeet had had something that was homemade and said yes. Ritu sat down and poured themselves two cups of hot and aromatic filter coffee. The smell of that divine coffee lifted Sumeet’s sprits and soon both of them started chatting.
Ritu too was an outsider in Mumbai and they both could identify each others’ problems. The only difference was that she loved the city. This point often became the core of their discussions which led to arguments. But they both enjoyed those wordy duels a lot.

Ritu’s friendship proved to be sort of a relief in Sumeet’s hectic life. Now they shared many things with each other; their food, their thoughts and their dreams. He had found a friend for life. Office was no longer a boring place and travel was not hectic anymore. Ritu’s homemade coffee had doubled and gradually the size of her home cooked lunch box increased too.

As each day passed, Ritu felt a strong connection with Sumeet. Whenever she reached the office early she found herself waiting for him eagerly. She felt like sharing every little detail of her life with him. She felt jealous whenever he mentioned Ayesha and she told herself that it is just his crush and nothing more than that. At times she tried to convince herself that probably Sumeet is just a crush for her. Maybe the feeling will pass with time; but it did not. Although she tried earnestly to not think about him, she failed every time.
She had started liking Sumeet.. more than a friend.
